[It was a long and hard battle, yet slowly but surely the Chaotic menace was beaten back.

What was left by the time "late at night" gets blurry with "early in the morning" were only a few dozen individuals, now huddled together downtown, near the large trees that'd given the city its name. They were faced off against several fighters, two opposing forces that weren't, at the moment, actually combatting.

They were both waiting to see who would make the first move.]

[Yang Xiao Long knows jokes and there is absolutely nothing funny about this situation.

Her teeth grit into a snarl.]

What do you mean?

It means what it does.

[Normally an admonition, from this figure it was a twisted sort of taunt. He spread his arms in a gesture including all the Chaotics behind him, who were still seated obediently, by his command.]

[The knuckles on her hands were turning white as she fisted her hands even tighter and the fury threatening to bubble over was palpable in her tone.]

And you let them loose...in the city.

[His grin never left.]

Fun, wasn't it?

Fun?? [Before now she stood in quiet fury, but she just couldn't remain silent anymore.]

You endangered the lives of thousands of people! Caused havoc, chaos, and destruction, and for what??!

[If he truly WAS the master of these Chaotics, which seemed likely by this point (as unbelievable as that was), there had to have been some kind of reason for it.

But what? And why?]

[The rabbit's reply sent anger of his own through him, and he balled his fists, his gauntlets quietly clinking with the movement of his arm.

Then he found the beast's third eye focused on him, and he was reminded of the glance from before.]

[A third of him was looking at Daniel. But the rest was looking at Yang, then to Blake, confidence never wavering.]

Memories.

[Yang's entire body stiffened and her head snapped up abruptly, irises a blazing red.]

YOU BASTARD!!!

[There was a *BOOM* as she punched her gauntlets behind her and down, the street cracking where she'd stood as the firepower rocketed her up into the air and forward, bearing down on the mangled rabbit with a scream.]

[He watched her come toward her, still smirking, and as she came close he stepped backward and to one side.

One arm came up in the same move and he drew back, clenching his claws like you would a fist and driving the gun barrel forward for the side of her head.]

[This thing was much faster than she'd anticipated with that broken-down looking body of his. Yang's fist had hit nothing but pavement and before she could even move to counter, the heavy gun barrel connected roughly with the side of her head.

Pain exploded with a flash of white behind her eyes as the direct strike to her skull sent her reeling to the ground.]

[He stepped back disdainfully as Yang fell in front of him, and then he wormed his foot underneath her. Muscles flexed and he kick-rolled her back across to the others while she was still stunned.]

YANG!

[He and Blake had called out simultaneously, and when Yang was "returned" he knelt down to her, looking over her in wide-eyed concern.]

Are you okay??

Ff-ine...

[Yang was already making an effort to get back onto her feet, but with the white-hot ache now lancing through her head and shoulders her movements were disjointed and clumsy. The ground spun on her and she ended up half-swaying, half-pitching into Daniel before she got an arm back under herself and managed to sit up somewhat.

Her eyes were still a furious red if just the tiniest bit unfocused as she glared towards the rabbit.]

...s'a little tougher than he looks...

[Only a little.

She winced and her other hand reached up to the side of her head on impulse, feeling the sticky mess of hair and belatedly registering the line of blood that had already started to trickle down her temple on that side.]

[Ruby just finished off one end of the chaotics as she charged off as soon as she saw her friends in trouble. Rushing forth before she was pratically skittered to a hault as soon as she saw Yang get hit.

Her eyes went wide in horror before she yelled out.]

YANG!!!

[Almost blindly she rushed forth knocking over anything in her path before she knelt down beside Yang. Reaching out to hold her hand as she held her close in fear, before glaring out to see who hit her as she gripped her crescent rose, seeing the evil rabbit, as Ruby took in a sharp breath. As she stood up between Yang and the rabbit as her weapon transformed into the gun intending to destroy that thing.]

[Crap.

That particular voice easily cut across the dizzy haze still clouding Yang's senses, and while she immediately started spitting out a litany of "I'm fine, I'm fine," her words were just the tiniest bit slurred, despite accompanying them with a reassuring, violet-eyed look and a comforting hand squeeze.

It was obvious to everyone, except Yang perhaps, that she likely had a concussion, but the blonde wasn't so out of it that Ruby standing up to face the mangled rabbit escaped her notice. Immediately, she pushed herself upright, struggling to get her feet back under her.]

Ruby-...careful...

[Her legs weren't quite getting the message to support her weight correctly and she ended up staggering and slumping onto the nearest person, somehow managing to keep her head raised and her focus trained on her sister despite it.]

[She was kneeling beside Yang and staring at her worriedly, about to suggest a tactical retreat, when Ruby came over and spoke up.

A warning sound rose up in her throat, but her attention shifted again when Yang moved. Her hands immediately went to her partner and she helped keep her steady, though her glaring eyes kept watch of the rabbit all the while.]

[He looked quickly from Yang and Blake, to Ruby, to the rabbit, and his expression hardened. Eyes narrowing, he stepped out in front of them and held one hand out, blades deployed, across Ruby's line of fire before she could set her weapon off. She received a meaningful look, a silent "Let me handle it" and then looked across at the monstrous rabbit again.]

[If you thought he'd be upset by the sudden pointing of a massive sniper rifle in his direction, or even by Yang's slow recovery, you'd be wrong.

Instead his slimy grin only grew as he locked eyes with Daniel, making a gesture.]

Yes, be the hero. You didn't get a chance before, so now's the perfect opportunity- [A sharp, detached laugh] -right?

[Ruby acknowledges everyone's concern, seeing how it took down Yang in such a blow. But she did not want to back down to just yet. Ruby glared as the rabbit antagonized Daniel. She rushed to his side still pointing her gun at the rabbit. Determined to shoot that guy right between the eyes as she mocked him back.]

Sounds like you're afraid for a two against one match!

[Yang was extremely glad for Blake's steadying presence leaning somewhat heavily against her, although she forewent a grateful glance her partner's way in favor of keeping her gaze locked on her sister and Daniel. Particularly when the latter stepped forward.]

Ss...stop it...

[She hissed the words out through tightly clenched teeth and it was hard to tell if they were directed at the rabbit or at the boy he was speaking to.

If she'd thought she could get another shot off at the monster, she would have, but firing her high-powered gauntlets when she could barely stand up straight was dangerous to everyone within the vicinity.]

[He looked back to make sure Yang was handled by Blake and then he glanced aside at Ruby, smirking lightly. It had just an edge of anxiety to it, whether from the trying day or the last few minutes it was hard to tell, but it was reasonably confident all the same.]

Two for one?

[Once he got a nod in reply he glowered at the rabbit and tensed, then rushed forward to take him on.]

[Ruby gave a confident and encouraging smile. Together they can both do this. She has faith in them both. She gave a nod.]

Let's get em~!

[And with that Ruby leapt into the air as she spurred on her range of shots. Striking straight for the rabbit with a round of bullets.]

[He leaned forward on his feet and then sprung up and backward, one of the massed Chaotics taking the blows for him. He bounced off its dying form and landed in the street nearby, giving the gathered heroes a dark grin before turning and heading off. The remaining Chaotics all followed without second though.]

[Just when she was about to strike down as she transformed her weapon to her scythe. She growled out as she saw them start to dash. About to move after them.]

They're gettin' away-!

[He shifted to look after them, just as ready as Ruby was.]

C'mon, we have to get them before they get too far!
