Big Wolf, Big Problem
WHO: Remi and Fluttershy
WHERE: Remi's Forest, outside Birchpointe
WHEN: A time long past
OPEN/CLOSED: Closed
WARNINGS: little bit of blood in the opening here
"A werewolf can't heal from silver."
The words of the hunter echoed in the werewolf's mind as his eyes opened to a sky filled with stars. Remiel lay on his side, breathing heavily as blood seeped from a wound to his ribs. He silently cursed himself for letting that hunter get away - nothing in this forest could simply be taken, as if it were mere sport. He was their protector, and that hunter had overcome him.
"I'm sorry..."
The huge wolf's softly whimpered words stirred sleeping birds, prowling owls, and small nocturnal rodents scurrying about on the forest floor. After so long under his protection, even if he scared them, they couldn't let it end like this. They were going to find whoever they could to get him help. It wouldn't be long before the whole forest was abuzz with worry.

"O-Oh, careful...Y-Your wound hasn't completely healed yet..."
no subject
"And it won't...for a long while..." he breathes, removing his hand from the injury. "But you..."
He looks at her carefully, his yellow eyes examining her as if he could see more than just the way she appears, before a calm look of puzzlement replaces the soul-piercing gaze. "...Why...?"
no subject
His question has her confused for a moment. "Wh-Why not...? You were injured...Y-You needed help...Wh-Why wouldn't I...?"
no subject
"Most spirits...would leave me be..." Other spirits and magical creatures couldn't possibly tell if a werewolf had been wounded by silver, and their ability to regenerate from normal wounds is well known.
"...But...if you weren't..." His breath fails him, sending him into a coughing fit - which makes him grimace in pain as his ribs expand and retract under the bandages.
no subject
"Shh...You should save your strength and get some rest..."
no subject
no subject
"Are you hungry...?"
no subject
Carefully, he tries to deepen his breathing. His body can regenerate from hunger, if it has to, so it's better that he leaves his ribs to do as little work as possible.

She's silent for a moment.
"I-Is...there anything I can do...?"
no subject
He feels his throat getting scratchy, and then blinks.
"...Water..." he answers after a moment. His mouth is dry, and the loss of blood has dehydrated him. With water, he might be able to regain his strength sooner.

Calling some of the animals to watch over him while she's gone, Fluttershy hurries to find a stream she'd heard about earlier.
no subject
Are you going to be okay? it seems to ask.
Remiel smiles just a little, then nods slowly. I'll live, the gesture answers. Did you all find her for me?
The chipmunk nods, looking very proud. We made sure she was the best around.
A sigh of relief, a deep breath, then, finally, Remiel seems to relax his shoulders, which he hadn't even noticed were so tense. Maybe I don't scare you all as much as I thought.
Remiel laughs a little at the chipmunk's chittering response and broad miming act. You're scary all right, but you're the one who keeps us all safe.

"Here..."
no subject
"Thank you," he says, his voice a little stronger now.
no subject
Then she drapes the rest of her cloak over him, as if tucking him in.
"Rest now..."
no subject
"...Who will...protect them?" Remiel asks, finding a new worry.
no subject
She held out a hand, and a bird took the chance to land on her finger.
"...I will...I...I-I might not be able to do much, but...I-I'll try my best..."
no subject
Seeing the bird land on her eases his worries some, and he lets himself drift off to sleep one more time.
no subject
But she even then she stays close by, wanting to be there in case he woke up and needed anything.
